OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUÉ

Please find here the official communiqué, reg. year 1 of this initiative.

A FEW WORDS ON THE INITIATIVE

2019-2020 marks the first year of a three-year initiative titled Toronto Dance Platform. This initiative, led by Dusk Dances Inc., will culminate with the creation of a Toronto Dance Platform event in Toronto, in 2021-2022. At this event, we hope to bring a delegation of international presenters to witness the talent we foster in our city. Our vision with this venture is to build access to international presenters for Toronto choreographers and to continue to develop and enrich the Toronto dance scene.

In YEAR 1, our Toronto delegation of artists (some of them also being presenters of events and festival) is attending international platforms to meet and to begin cultivating relationships with an array of international presenters.

Our delegation includes (click on the companies names for details):

1. Peggy Baker - Peggy Baker Dance Projects
2. Sylvie Bouchard - Dusk Dances and BoucharDanse
3. Susie Burpee - Susie Burpee
4. Denise Fujiwara - Fujiwara Dance Inventions and CanAsian Dance
5. Karen and Allen Kaeja - Kaeja d’Dance and Porch View Dances
6. Andrea Nann - Dreamwalker Dance Company
7. Yvonne Ng - tiger princess dance projects and dance: made in canada Festival
8. Heidi Strauss - adelheid
9. Throwdown Collective - Zhenya Cerneacov, Mairéad Filgate and Brodie Stevenson
10. Gerry Trentham - pounds per square inch

Our goals are:

- to make Toronto a destination for international presenters;
- to identify international presenters who are curious and interested to see works created by Toronto dance artists and companies;
- to engage with international presenters and also with international artists.

This three-year project is endorsed by Choreographers’ Network - Toronto (CN-T), a network of over 160 Toronto choreographers incepted by Denise Fujiwara in 2017. In consultation with CN-T artists and led by Dusk Dances’ Festival Director Sylvie Bouchard, Toronto Dance Platform’s desire is to strengthen the Toronto dance community as a whole and to foster its impact on the international scene.

Toronto Dance Platform – YEAR 1 is financially supported by the Ontario Arts Council and the Department of Canadian Heritage. We are very thankful for their support.
