Call for Dancers, Dusk Dances 2022
DUSK DANCES IS SEEKING FOUR EMERGING OR ESTABLISHED DANCE ARTISTS FROM ALL COMMUNITIES OF DANCE PRACTICE
FOR OUR 2022 SUMMER TOUR
You will audition for two works:
- The Horologium - by Michael Caldwell
- Box Set - by Throwdown Collective
THE AUDITIONS WILL TAKE PLACE:
For The Horologium - Monday, March 28th, 2022 *
Two times available:
- 9:15am to 12:00pm (registration starts at 8:30am)
- 1:00pm to 3:45pm (registration start at 12:15pm)
At the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, 509 Parliament Street, Toronto
(Studio A and B)
For Box Set - Tuesday, March 29th, Wednesday, March 30th or April 1st, 2022 **
Three times available:
- Tuesday, March 29th from 9:00am to 11:30am (registration starts at 8:30am)
- Wednesday, March 30th from 9:00am to 11:30am (registration starts at 8:30am)
- Friday, April 1st, from 9:00am to 11:30am (registration starts at 8:30am)
At the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, 509 Parliament Street, Toronto
(Studio C and D)
* After email registration, you will be able to choose a time slot that is more convenient for you. In order to ensure safety and social distancing of the dancers during the audition, there will be maximum of 30 dancers per time slot.
** Only shortlisted dance artists from the first audition (on Monday, March 28th) will be invited for the second audition for Box Set on March 29, 30 or April 1, 2022.
Dancers with strong dance skills are required.
For cross-casting, contemporary dance training is an asset
Touring experience is an asset, but not necessary.
AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS
Artists must be fully available for the Dusk Dances 2022 summer tour:
July 12 to 17, 2022 in Barrie, ON (4 performances in total - July 14 to 17, 2022)
July 19 to 24, 2022 in Hamilton, ON (4 performances in total - July 21 to 24, 2022)
July 26 to 31, 2022 in Repentigny, QC (3 performances in total - July 28 to 30, 2022)
Artists must be available for rehearsals between April 15th and July 8th, 2022 (not full-time). Specific times to be discussed with choreographers.
HOW TO APPLY
To take part in the audition, please send the following to Marketa Tokova at marketa@duskdances.ca:
- A CV
- A photo or a headshot (if you prefer, we can take a photo at the time of registration)
- A confirmation that you are available for the rehearsals and the performance dates
Dusk Dances will accept applications until Sunday, March 27th, 2022 at 5pm.
Dusk Dances welcomes and will prioritize hiring artists who self-identify as being part of underrepresented groups including IBPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and disabled. *

FEES
$1,000 / touring week
Accommodation, transportation and per-diem provided for the touring weeks.
$30/ hour for rehearsals
COVID protocols
The health and safety of all the participating dance artists, as well as of Dusk Dances staff and collaborators, is of the utmost importance for Dusk Dances. We will therefore continue respecting Dusk Dances’ Health and Safety protocols in terms of masks, social distancing and vaccinations.
- In order to participate in the auditions, everyone has to be fully vaccinated.
- Masks will be mandatory during the audition process.
- Social distancing will be respected whenever possible.
- If you do not feel well on the day of the auditions, we would kindly ask that you do not attend.

If you intend to audition, and would like to ask for more details and information about the audition, or if you would like to discuss the upcoming audition, you are welcome to join Dusk Dances at the virtual conversation & coffee circle, facilitated by Fanny Ghorayeb.
Fanny Ghorayeb is Artist Advocate & Social Alignment Advisor at Dusk Dances. She will host and facilitate the conversation & coffee circles on a monthly basis. It is our offering to get together and reflect on various topics in a relaxed environment.
The first conversation & coffee circle will be about the upcoming audition.
