Get On Board
Choreographed by Kate Franklin and Meredith Thompson
Adapted and Performed by: Meredith Thompson
Music by: Watts Local by Royal Crown Revue, All But Broken by Acme Swing Co., Suits Are Picking Up The Bill by Squirrel Nut Zippers
Costume and Props by: Chatt and Van
Set Construction by: Rabbit’s Choice
Get On Board was first commissioned by Dusk Dances Inc., and premiered as a quartet in Toronto’s Withrow Park in 2008. This solo adaptation of Get On Board was inspired by La Sape, ‘The Society of Ambianceurs and Elegant People’ of the Congo, whose simple philosophy is to defy circumstance … and to live with joie de vivre. For the Sapeur, it’s not the cost of the suit that counts - it’s the worth of the (wo)man inside of it.
First premiered at Dusk Dances in 2008.
This Is How We Love
Choreographed by Susie Burpee
Performed by: Sylvie Bouchard and Brendan Wyatt
Music: Ogives I II III and IV by Erik Satie, performed and recorded by Eve Egoyan
“What does love feel like?” The audience is asked this question as the dance begins, and their responses play a key role in bringing the duet to life. Quirky, passionate, and never the same from night to night, this duet is a game of love. It reveals the many emotions that arise in the lifetime of a relationship.
A Dusk Dances premiere.
