Join Dusk Dances for an enchanting evening of dance. As the sun sets
over Withrow Park, our host Dan Watson will lead you through five eclectic dance pieces.

Opening Band: Café Con Pan

The Withrow Park program features exciting new choreographies:

May I join you?

Choreography by Carmen Romero

Performed by Carmen Romero, Composer/Pianist: Scott Metcalfe

May I join you is an enticing conversation between a flamenco dancer
and a Jazz pianist. Choreographer Carmen Romero and Jazz pianist Scott Metcalf,
have joined artistic forces to employ their improvisational skills and talents
to transcend the boundaries of culture and genre.
May I join you has been adapted for Dusk Dances unique performance environment.

1981 FM

Choreography by Throwdown Collective

Performed by Zhenya Cerneacov, Mairéad Filgate, Brodie Stevenson.

Throwdown Collective returns to Withrow Park with their third
and most daring piece yet. This time the dynamic trio combines
their signature high-paced and energetic physicality with a vaguely vintage car.
Come see the trio re-invent the classic afternoon drive.

The alice Odyssey (excerpt)

Choreography by Melanie Kloetzel (Calgary)
with Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre

Performed by Jessalyn Britton, Francesca Chudnoff, Alexandra Kersley,
Jennifer Morse, Natasha Poon Woo, Miya Shaffer and Caileigh Suline

The Alice Odyssey (an excerpt) is a dance theatre work that uses athletic feats,
an outlandish script, and wild swings of sound to convey the inner turmoil
of our favourite childhood stories. Scampering through playful partnering,
heavily exaggerated facial gestures, and daring exploits in the setting
of Withrow Park, The Alice Odyssey examines the strange, and often violent,
maelstrom that lurks in children’s fantasy worlds.

Unquiet Winds

Choreography by Denise Fujiwara

Performed by Sylvie Bouchard and Brendan Wyatt

Unquiet Winds premiered in May 2012, as part of Histoire d’amour,
co-presented by DanceWorks and BoucharDanse.

The Last Round

Choreography by Susie Burpee
with tiger princess dance projects

Performed by Robert Glumbek and Yvonne Ng

Two long-time archrivals meet in the boxing ring for one final round.
But this is no ordinary match. When the gloves come off,
these two duke it out in a virtuosic dance battle.
Performed, fittingly, by long-time dance partners Robert Glumbek and Yvonne Ng,
this piece is non-stop action, high-energy contemporary dance.
